Leica Rangefinder Calibration

All Leica M rangefinders work by superimposing an image reflected from an additional window into the main viewfinder centered in the photographer's vision.
The lens is focused by rotating a ring that moves not only the optics inside the lens but also cams inside the camera interfacing with a complex mechanism that changes the position of the reflected image until they align horizontally. This overlap communicates to the photographer that the object in the patch is in focus.
Although robust and precise, overtime the projected rangefinder patch could fall out of phase both vertically and horizontally. When only the vertical is affected, the rangefinder may still focus accurately but confirmation could be much more difficult
